Starting 1 May: Expanded Social Security Dental Benefits Including Dental Implants and Increased Denture Coverage

The Minister of Labor announced good news for insured persons: the Social Security Office is expanding dental benefits for services at both public and private medical facilities, covering fillings, scaling, tooth extractions, and wisdom tooth surgeries, effective 1 May 2026.

On 17 April 2026, Mr. Julphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, revealed that the Ministry of Labor assigned the Social Security Office to develop dental benefit rights for insured persons under Sections 33 and 39. This aims to improve quality of life, reduce health expenses, and enhance access to medical services efficiently and comprehensively starting 1 May 2026 as follows.

For insured persons receiving services at contracted public medical facilities,

- Coverage includes fillings, scaling, tooth extractions, and all cases of wisdom tooth surgery, plus additional rights such as root planing and bone trimming to prepare the mouth before denture fitting. There is no limit on the number of treatments according to standards and medical necessity. Insured persons do not pay fees except when using special clinics, where they must pay medical fees themselves based on the Ministry of Public Health’s 2025 rates for Thai citizens.

- The allowance for denture services is increased to a range of 1,500 to 6,000 baht, and repair costs for dentures are set at 900 baht per session.

- Added rights include dental implant services for full dentures for those who have lost all teeth and cannot use removable dentures. Coverage includes surgery fees of 17,500 baht, implant kits costing 3,300 baht, and continuous follow-up care after treatment.

For insured persons receiving services at contracted private medical facilities,

- Coverage includesfillings,scaling, and tooth extractions with an annual limit of 900 baht. If costs exceed 900 baht, the insured person must pay the difference.

- Additionally, the fee for wisdom tooth surgery is set between 1,500 and 2,500 baht per tooth, with no extra cost to the insured.

- The allowance for denture services is increased to a range of 1,500 to 6,000 baht, with denture repair costs at 900 baht per session.

- Added rights include dental implant services for full dentures for those who have lost all teeth and cannot use removable dentures. Coverage includes surgery fees of 17,500 baht, implant kits costing 3,300 baht, and continuous follow-up care after treatment.

Ms. Kanjana Phulkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, added that dental benefits become effective when the insured has contributed for at least 3 months within 15 months before receiving the service, and also apply up to 6 months after the insured status ends.

For services at medical facilities not contracted with the Social Security Office, whether public or private, insured persons must pay upfront and can then apply for reimbursement according to regulations via the e-Self Service system or by submitting claims at Social Security offices nationwide.
