The Meteorological Department issues Announcement No. 8 warning the public to be cautious of "summer storms" and to prepare for thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and some hail in certain areas.
18 April 2026 GMT+7The Meteorological Department's websiteannounces "Summer storms over upper Thailand (impact lasting until 20 April 2026) Announcement No. 8" stating that upper Thailand will experience summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and localized hail, with possible lightning in some areas. This is due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China spreading over the South China Sea, strengthening the south and southeast winds over the lower Northeast region, the East, and the upper Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, upper Thailand remains hot to very hot.
The public in upper Thailand is advised to beware of dangers from summer storms by avoiding open spaces, large trees, unstable structures, and advertising signs. Farmers should reinforce their fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural produce and livestock from potential damage, as well as take care of their health during this changing weather period.
Furthermore, the public should monitor announcements from the Meteorological Department and can follow updates on their website http://www.tmd.go.th or contact 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182 available 24 hours a day.
