A "summer storm" in Khon Kaen province produced strong gusts that pushed against a cement wall -and window panescollapsed, crushing a 60-year-old woman to death in her bedroom. Her father was shocked to find her body in the morning.
At 06:00 on 18 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Wuttinan Srasom, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Ban Phai Police Station, received a report from the 191 radio center that a house wall had collapsed on a person causing death in Village No. 6, Ban Non Phai, Hua Nong Subdistrict, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen. He reported up the chain of command and coordinated with the duty doctor at Ban Phai Hospital to assist with the victim's autopsy and arranged for a foundation to collect the body.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the house was a two-story wooden building. The ground floor had been extended to include a bedroom. In that bedroom, located on the ground floor and belonging to Ms. Kingphaka Phanakat, 60, the homeowner's daughter, a cement wall and window panes had collapsed onto her body as she slept on the bed, resulting in her death.
Mr. Man Phanakat, 82, the victim's father, said that around 22:30 the previous night, there were strong gusts of storm wind. He did not expect the cement wall to collapse onto his daughter while she was sleeping in the bedroom. Before discovering the body, it was already daylight but she had not woken up. When he went to check the bedroom, he saw that the brick block wall, which had stood for many years, had fallen and crushed his daughter on the bed. The wall collapse likely resulted from the strong storm winds pushing against it.She diedinstantly.
After the investigation, the parents and relatives did not object to the death. The police and the doctor completed the autopsy and handed the body over to the family for traditional funeral rites.
