Storm Warning No. 9: Check Provinces Preparing for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Storm Warning No. 9 has been issued, alerting provinces to prepare for heavy rain, strong gusts, and hail, especially in the Northeast and Eastern regions. Check which areas are affected.

On 19 April 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued Storm Warning No. 9 regarding severe storms in upper Thailand (effective until 20 April 2026). It stated that severe storms will continue to occur in many areas, particularly in the Northeast and Eastern regions.

These storms are characterized by thunder, strong gusty winds, hail, and heavy rainfall, with possible lightning in some areas. This is due to southerly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea over the Northeast, East, and upper Gulf areas, while the rest of Thailand remains hot to very hot.

Residents in upper Thailand are advised to beware of dangers from severe storms by avoiding open spaces, staying away from large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect crops and livestock from possible damage. People should also take care of their health during this changing weather.

The provinces expected to be affected by thunderstorms and strong gusts are as follows:

High Risk 

  • Northern Region: Chiang Rai, Phayao, and Nan provinces.
  • Northeastern Region: Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, and Chonburi provinces.

Medium Risk

  • Northern Region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces.
  • Northeastern Region: Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, and Roi Et provinces.
  • Central Region: Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Ratchaburi provinces, including Bangkok and its metropolitan area.
  • Eastern Region: Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
