
Tragically, officials at the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources research center were notified of a fully grown Irrawaddy dolphin carcass washed ashore along the coast of Samut Sakhon Province. The carcass was severely decomposed, with peeling skin and a missing tail. Efforts are underway to promptly remove it from the area.
On 22 April 2026, a Facebook page posted the news.The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.The post stated that the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 8 received a report from the Upper Gulf of Thailand Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center about villagers finding a stranded dolphin along the coast of Khok Kham Subdistrict, Samut Sakhon Province. Initial inspection identified the animal as an Irrawaddy dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris).
Officials from Office 8 removed the dolphin carcass from the area to ensure the local community's health and have coordinated with the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center to manage the carcass properly according to scientific standards.
