
EssilorLuxottica officially announced the opening of a new research and development center in the Lat Krabang area of Bangkok, underscoring its commitment to advancing the limits of innovation in eye care.
On 24 Apr 2024 GMT+7, reporters reported that EssilorLuxottica, a company specializing in the design, manufacture, and sale of eyeglass lenses, frames, and sunglasses, officially opened a new research and development center in Lat Krabang, Bangkok. This center is located near the group’s main production base, covering an area of over 5,000 square meters, and will serve as a strategic hub for lens material and manufacturing technology, encompassing all operational stages from advanced material research to industrial-scale production development.
The research and development center houses a team of more than 100 experts, including scientists, engineers, and technicians, dedicated to advancing research on new optical lens materials and formulas. Their goal is to enhance the performance and sustainability of lenses, reinforcing EssilorLuxottica’s commitment to delivering superior visual experiences alongside the group’s sustainability initiatives. The center also plays a key role in driving cutting-edge innovation in manufacturing technology and advanced lens production processes.
Davide Scinetti, Chief Operating Officer of EssilorLuxottica, stated that the new research and development center will enhance collaboration between research and manufacturing, enabling faster translation of research into industrial production. It will improve efficiency and sustainable production, reaffirming Thailand’s role as a key manufacturing hub in the region. By strengthening the group’s scientific and manufacturing capabilities, the company is accelerating innovation and developing future vision solutions. The center features advanced laboratories integrated with industrial-level development systems to rapidly develop and scale new lens materials, raw materials, and manufacturing technologies for commercial use, shortening development cycles and efficiently driving innovation to market.
Pierre Fromentin, Head of Chemicals & Materials Technology at EssilorLuxottica’s Lat Krabang R&D center, said the facility was established to elevate the capabilities of lens materials and structures by accelerating the transfer of innovative technologies from the laboratory to production. It aims to develop lenses with enhanced performance tailored to specific user needs, while continually improving efficiency and sustainability. Sustainability is a core principle in the center’s design, targeting LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, a global standard for environmentally responsible building design, construction, and management. The center is equipped with advanced air management systems to reduce emissions, reflecting EssilorLuxottica’s commitment to responsible and sustainable growth.
