Warning for 56 Provinces to Prepare for Heavy Rain from Summer Storms: Check Which Areas Are Affected

The Meteorological Department warns of summer storms over upper Thailand.Expected impact.Until 25 Apr 2026, a list of 56 provinces is released to prepare for thunderstorms, strong gusts, and occasional hail.

On 24 April 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued a statement regarding summer storms over upper Thailand (6th edition), stating that between 24–25 Apr 2026, upper Thailand will experience summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain in some areas, with possible lightning strikes. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass spreading from China covering the northeast and the South China Sea, while upper Thailand remains generally hot to very hot.

The public in the affected areas are advised to be cautious of dangers from the summer storms by avoiding open spaces, standing under large trees, unstable structures, and advertising signs. Farmers are urged to reinforce fruit trees and prepare to prevent damage to agricultural products and livestock, as well as to maintain health during the changing weather conditions.

High risk areas

  • Northern region: Lampang, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun provinces.
  • Northeastern region: Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Roi Et, Yasothon,Amnat Charoen, and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Central region: Nakhon Sawan and Lopburi provinces.

Moderate risk areas

  • Northern region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lamphun, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet provinces.
  • Northeastern region: Nong Khai and Bueng Kan provinces.
  • Central region: Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi provinces, including Bangkok and its metropolitan area.
  • Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
