Former Community Leader Shoots Local Reporter Dead, Attacks Wife and Sister-in-Law with Knife Before Fleeing

Angered over a request to move his parking spot. The "former community leader" stormed in and shot the "local reporter" dead, then chased the wife and sister-in-law with a knife, injuring them before fleeing. Police are now urgently searching for the suspect.

At 21:30 on 26 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Piyoros Chukoon, investigator at Khelang Nakhon Police Station, Mueang District, Lampang Province, received a report of a shooting and stabbing incident causing death and injuries at a shack within Lampang Municipality, Chomphu Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lampang Province. He promptly proceeded to the scene with investigators, forensic officers, and Sawang Lampang Rescue Unit.

At the shack’s door, the body of 54-year-old local reporter Chaiwut Chaiyinta was found, shot once in the chest with a locally made short shotgun, lying dead in a pool of blood. Two others were injured: 55-year-old Panatda Chimpad, the victim’s wife, suffered multiple severe knife wounds, and 48-year-old Praphaporn Chimpad, the victim’s sister-in-law, sustained a single knife wound to the head. Both were taken by rescue workers to Lampang Hospital.

The suspect, 62-year-old Anusorn, known as Lung Tha, former community leader and owner of a nearby casual dining restaurant serving noodles and rice porridge, is currently at large.

During questioning, Praphaporn, the victim’s sister-in-law, stated that earlier this month, the victim asked the suspect to park his car elsewhere, a spot not far from where the suspect usually parked. This was because after the employer built the shack, he planned to place tables there for workers to eat and drink. However, the suspect was displeased, feeling the victim was new and the spot was traditionally his, although the space actually belonged to the employer who built the shack for the workers.

After that, the suspect often muttered complaints. Before Songkran, there was a dispute between them but it was controlled without incident. Today, as she was leaving her home in the alley, she heard a single gunshot, then saw Lung Tha run to get a knife from his restaurant nearby. He chased the victim’s wife, who hid under a bed, repeatedly slashing her. She tried to intervene but was also stabbed once in the head. The suspect then attacked her sister, but she pushed him away once. The suspect then seemed to regain composure and fled.

The sister added that before the incident, the suspect was muttering complaints as usual, which led the victim to open the door to confront him. The victim’s wife tried to stop him, but he went ahead and was then shot.

The true cause remains under investigation, with authorities working urgently to apprehend the suspect and proceed with legal action.
