
A man who went on a shooting rampage in Ayutthaya was taken into court custody, claiming hallucinations caused by drug use. Meanwhile, social media users mourned Paphatsara Ruangrit, the unfortunate victim who was fatally shot in front of her child.
In the incident where a man armed with a gun opened fire on locals in Lat Bua Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, one victim was Ms. Paphatsara Ruangrit, 44, a teacher at Wat Sukantharam School (Sukantawittayakarn) in Botalo Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, who died in front of her child, as previously reported.
Most recently on 27 Apr 2026, the news team followed up on the case at Lat Bua Luang Police Station in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, where officials were found to bepolice officershadbroughtthe suspect, Mr. Sarawut, 35 years old,the perpetrator,out of the detention room to further inquire about his willingness toparticipate in a crime scene reenactmentto supporthis confession,or not.However,after assessing the situation, authorities feared for safety because relatives of the victim were still angry, so they canceled thetakingof the suspectto the crime scene reenactment.Instead,the suspect was takenin for further interrogation.During questioning,when the suspect was being led into the interrogation room, reporters tried to ask about his motives
and whether he felt remorse,as well as the amount of drugs used, but the suspect did not respond to anyquestions.Observers noted that during the questioning, the suspect spoke and cooperated with authorities normally, at times smiling and showing no signs of worry.Later in the afternoon, police took the suspect to the court for detention. While being escorted to the prison van, reporters asked again if he felt remorse. The suspect said he did and wanted to apologize to the victim's family.
When asked about the cause, he admitted to hallucinating from drug use but could not recall how many pills he had taken. When questioned about the firearm used in the attack and its origin, he refused to answer, saying he was stressed and did not want to talk anymore.
Meanwhile, online, the Office of the Basic Education Commission and various schools posted condolences and expressed sympathy to the family of Ms. Paphatsara Ruangrit, a government teacher at Wat Sukantharam School (Sukantawittayakarn), along with announcements of the religious ceremony arrangements.
