Durian sellers offer an attractive promotion: “Durian for 1 baht each,” but customers must first buy durians at regular prices. The offer is limited to 200 rights per day. If the durian is underripe or defective, customers can claim a replacement.
On 29 April 2026, reporters described the atmosphere in a department store parking lot in Nan province, where durian sellers held a special promotion "Durian for 1 baht each" from 29 April to 4 May 2026. Many people queued early before the event opened to claim the offer.
The promotion allows 200 people per day to participate, with queue tickets distributed starting at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing to buy durians for 1 baht each must first purchase one durian at the regular price from the store, regardless of size or variety. Then they can use the queue ticket to line up for small durians weighing about 1–2 kilograms at the special price.
Ms. Amita Sapphanich, known as “Je Da,” the store owner, said this event was organized to allow the public to enjoy seasonal fruit at accessible prices. Although costs and shipping fees have risen, the store maintains prices with a profit margin of only 10–15 baht per kilogram. She emphasized product quality and said customers can claim a replacement immediately if the durian is underripe, hard, or problematic.
Durian prices at the event vary, ranging from premium grade at 119 baht per kilogram, Monthong from Chan at 99 baht per kilogram, Monthong from Rayong at 79 baht per kilogram, and other varieties such as Chanee and Kradum at 59 baht per kilogram.
However, although the "Durian for 1 baht each" promotion is genuine, it has clear conditions. Interested customers are advised to plan their visit in advance and allow time for queuing, as the limited rights sell out quickly each day.
