On 30 April 2026, the Facebook page of the 2nd Army Region posted images and a statement saying that the 22nd Military Circle in Ubon Ratchathani has enrolled the heir of the brave soldier, a "hero of the border soldiers," to serve as a replacement following clashes in the Thai-Cambodian border area.
Sergeant Anothai Pongkaew, a brave soldier assigned to the Special Operations Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Regiment (Task Force 90), died heroically and selflessly while protecting the country's sovereignty, exemplifying loyalty and great honor.
According to Army regulations, care is provided to the families of those who sacrificed for the nation. An important aspect is appointing the heir of the deceased to serve as a replacement, which helps alleviate hardship, provides job security for the family, and honors the deceased as a defender of the nation.
Major General Thanakrit Panrod, Commander of the 22nd Military Circle, presented the rank insignia to Ms. Pensiri Srilarpa, the wife of the fallen hero, appointing her as Second Lieutenant Pensiri Srilarpa, Welfare Officer of the 22nd Military Circle, at the Command Reception Room. Relatives, commanders, and commissioned officers attended the ceremony.
On this occasion, the Commander of the 22nd Military Circle expressed condolences for the loss of a beloved soldier and family pillar, thanked the family for their continual support and encouragement of the hero’s military service, and congratulated the heir, the soldier’s wife, on becoming a new member of the army. He urged her to perform her duties to the fullest and emphasized that the army "will never leave anyone behind" to repay the dedication of heroes who sacrificed for the nation’s sovereignty and all Thai people.
