Severe Thunderstorm Warning No. 7: 40 Provinces Including Bangkok on Alert for Heavy Rain, Hail

Announcement " Severe Thunderstorm" in Upper Thailand No. 7 warns 40 provinces, including Bangkok, to monitor heavy rain, strong gusts, hail, and some lightning in certain areas, advising the public to avoid open spaces and shelter under large trees.

On 30 April 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued the 7th announcement on severe thunderstorms in Upper Thailand (effective until 1 May 2026), stating that from 30 April to 1 May 2026, the northern, northeastern, eastern, and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will experience severe thunderstorms.

These storms are characterized by thunder, strong gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain in some areas, with possible lightning. This is due to high pressure or cold air masses from China spreading over the northeast and the South China Sea, while Upper Thailand remains hot.

The public in these areas is urged to be cautious of severe thunderstorms by avoiding open places, large trees, weak structures, and billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect crops and livestock from possible damage, as well as take care of their health during this weather change.

  • North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phrae, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces
  • Northeast: Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Buriram provinces
  • Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Lopburi, and Saraburi provinces
  • East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, and Chonburi provinces

Moderate risk

  • North: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Phichit, and Tak provinces
  • Northeast: Nong Bua Lamphu, Khon Kaen, and Surin provinces
  • Central: Singburi, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity
  • East: Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces
