Songkhla Issues Flood Warning Due to Heavy Rain from 14-18 May 2026

Songkhla's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office warns local residents to monitor for flash floods in foothill and lowland areas due to heavy to very heavy rainfall from 14-18 May 2026.

On 13 May 2026, the Songkhla Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command issued an official fax alerting residents and relevant agencies to prepare for heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds in southern Thailand, including Songkhla, from 14-18 May 2026. According to Meteorological Department bulletin No. 1 (61/2569), a strong low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal will move to cover the northern Bay of Bengal. Combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, this will increase rainfall and cause locally heavy to very heavy rains.

Regarding wave conditions from 14-18 May 2026, the Andaman Sea will have waves 2-3 meters high, with waves exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves about 2 meters high, rising above 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.

Preparedness measures: 1. Warn the public to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. 2. Advise boaters to navigate carefully and avoid sailing in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

Mr. Rattasat Chitchu, Governor of Songkhla and provincial director, has ordered the district disaster prevention and mitigation commands and related agencies to immediately report the situation to the province by phone/fax at 0 7431 6380 and via the safety hotline 1784 around the clock.
