Chilling Morning: Refrigerated Truck Hits Over 100-Year-Old Historic Bridge Beam in Lampang Province

A refrigerated truck collided with a beam of a historic bridge over 100 years old in Lampang Province, causing the beam to crack and sustain damage. The driver claimed he was guided by GPS.

At 05:45 GMT+7 on 14 May 2026, police from Mueang Lampang Police Station received a report of a six-wheeled refrigerated truck hitting the Ratsadaphisek Bridge in Lampang Municipality, Mueang District, Lampang Province. Officers and related personnel rushed to the scene to inspect the incident.

The incident occurred near the Ratsadaphisek Bridge also known as the “White Bridge.” This is a historic bridge in Lampang Province, constructed in 1917, making it over 109 years old. Officials found that the concrete beam at the seventh span from Wiang Nuea Subdistrict showed signs of a strong impact, with cracks and bending. Pieces of concrete had fallen onto the roadway of the bridge.

The vehicle involved was a six-wheeled refrigerated truck registered in Chiang Mai Province. Its refrigerated container roof showed scrape marks and damage from striking the concrete beam on the upper part of the bridge heavily. The insurance company has been contacted to inspect and take responsibility for the damages.

The driver said he was transporting fresh chicken from central Lampang to deliver in the Nong Krathing area. He followed GPS directions and was unaware that the vehicle's height exceeded the clearance under the bridge beam. The collision occurred shortly before the truck was about to clear the bridge.

Initially, police documented the scene and inspected the damage. They coordinated with Lampang Municipality officials to examine the Ratsadaphisek Bridge’s structure, assess the damage, and arrange for repairs.
