A locker rental in central Patong, Phuket was inspected after a Swedish man defaulted on rent for over four months. Inside, five guns and 100 rounds of ammunition were found. Police are urgently investigating the source.
At 10:20 a.m. on 14 May 2026, Pol. Col. Korakrit Khanakrua, superintendent of Patong Police Station, reported the seizure of firearms and ammunition within their jurisdiction to Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, commander of Phuket Provincial Police. On 13 May 2026, Pol. Lt. Col. Surachart Thongyai, investigator at Patong Police Station, was contacted by representatives of a storage rental company located inside a well-known shopping center in Patong Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket. They requested police to inspect locker number 2184 on the second floor because the male Swedish tenant had not paid rent for over four months. They sought police presence to open the locker as witnesses in case illegal items were found. Upon opening, a large quantity of firearms and ammunition was discovered inside.
Kirakorn Chiaochan, the company’s authorized representative, informed Patong police that the locker was rented under the name Elmi Ahmed Mohamed, a Swedish national, who had defaulted on rent for more than 120 days and could not be contacted. The company followed procedures to open the locker and check its contents, coordinating with Patong police, which led to the discovery of the firearms and ammunition.
Initial inspection found four Glock 9mm pistols and one CZ pistol, along with two boxes of 9mm ammunition, each containing 50 rounds, totaling 100 rounds. Preliminary checks confirmed all firearms had registration numbers. Police seized all weapons and ammunition as evidence and are now urgently verifying the gun registrations and tracing the origin of the firearms to determine if they were legally possessed before proceeding with legal action.
