May 15, 2026The Meteorological Department websitehas announced"Heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand and strong winds over the Andaman Sea, Warning No. 5 (effective until May 18, 2026)"It stated that Thailand will experience increasing rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas across the northern, central, eastern, and southern regions. Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy and very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in foothill areas near watercourses and low-lying zones.
This is due to a strong low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal moving northward to cover the northern Bay of Bengal, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Regarding sea conditions, winds over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will strengthen from May 15 to 18, 2026. The upper Andaman Sea, from Phuket Province northward, will see waves 2–3 meters high, with waves exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms.
The lower Andaman Sea, from Krabi Province southward, and the upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters high, with waves over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in these zones are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during these days.
