Thailand’s first virtual bank license has been granted to "AIS-Krungthai-OR," which plans to begin services in June 2026.
On 15 May, reporter sources stated that Mr. Pratthana Leelapanang, CEO of Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), informed the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 15 May 2026 that AIS and its partners—Krungthai Bank Public Company Limited and PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR)—received approval from the Minister of Finance on 19 June 2025 to establish a virtual commercial bank. This led to the joint founding of CLICX Public Company Limited on 8 August 2025 to apply for a business license from the Bank of Thailand.
On 14 May 2026, the Bank of Thailand issued a license to CLICX to operate as Thailand’s first virtual bank. It is believed that the collaboration among these three partners will strengthen three key areas: technology, finance, and the economic ecosystem. This will offer an option for all citizens, especially the unserved and underserved groups, to access appropriate, safe, and fair financial products.
According to a press release, CLICX was created under the concept "Bank in One CLICX," aiming to evolve from a digital bank to beyond banking through developments such as applying AI to enhance customer experience, analyzing real-life behavior, and using alternative data to gain a more comprehensive understanding of users’ financial profiles.
The core mission of CLICX is to provide equitable financial access to all Thai people, especially those underserved by the traditional financial system—such as irregular income earners, daily workers, freelancers, riders, taxi drivers, recent graduates, students, online sellers, and small entrepreneurs who may face limitations in income documentation, financial history, or income patterns. The bank plans to launch services by June 2026.
