BMTA has set compensation conditions following a train-bus collision, providing 1.5 million baht per deceased victim, while injured individuals will receive assistance ranging from 80,000 to 500,000 baht.
A serious accident occurred when freight train number 2126, traveling from Laem Chabang to Bang Sue Junction under the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), collided with bus route 206. The bus was stopped on the railway crossing due to a red traffic light at the Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection, at the level crossing near Asoke-Din Daeng (between Khlong Tan and Makkasan stations). This caused a severe accident and a fire spreading at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate 8 fatalities and approximately 32 injured individuals. Rescue teams and relevant authorities have been working quickly to assist and transport the injured to hospitals.
At 19:38 on 16 May 2026, Mr. Kittikan Chomduang, Director of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), confirmed that initially 8 people died and about 32 were injured.
Regarding BMTA's responsibility, it holds insurance with Muang Thai Insurance Public Company Limited and has third-party liability coverage. The deceased will receive preliminary compensation of approximately 1.5 million baht each. Injured persons will be compensated based on the severity of their injuries: general injuries will receive about 80,000 baht, while cases of disability can receive up to 500,000 baht.
