The accident occurred when a train collided with a bus at the railroad crossing at the Asoke-Phet intersection on Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday (16 May). This resulted in 8 fatalities at the scene and many injuries. The incident caused temporary traffic disruption in the area for clearing and safety inspections, as previously reported.
The latest update today (17 May 2026) from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reports that officials and engineers completed removing obstacles, repairing signaling systems, and inspecting the railway’s integrity late last night.
As of this morning, train services on the affected route have resumed normal operations for all scheduled trains.
At the accident site this morning, people brought flowers, garlands, and bottled water to pay tribute to the deceased. Meanwhile, officials from the Ratchathewi district were cleaning and removing scattered debris from the accident to clear the path.

Meanwhile, five relatives of missing persons have arrived at the forensic institute. Staff from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and the institute are facilitating DNA testing, which will proceed once direct relatives such as parents or children confirm the information. After identity confirmation and completion of all documentation, the Ruamkatanyu Foundation will assist in returning the bodies to their hometowns free of charge.
