The adoptive mother recounted a heartbreaking moment when her daughter's smartwatch kept sending continuous alerts after the tragic train-bus collision, as she still could not reach her. The daughter's last social media story was filmed on the bus, but the mother hopes it is not true and prays for a miracle.
Regarding the train-bus collision near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan Station at around 15:30 on 16 May, the accident resulted in 8 deaths at the scene and many injuries, as previously reported.
At 11:00 on 17 May 2026, at the Forensic Institute of the Police Hospital, Mrs. Wipada Jantham, 59, the adoptive mother of the missing person named Rose, 25, who works as a graphic designer at a company and moonlights as a DJ playing music at clubs in Bang Na, was still unable to contact her daughter. Tearfully, she said, “I am searching for my adoptive daughter. I have two sons. Yesterday, after the accident, Rose's Apple Watch kept sending alerts constantly. I was still at home in Ubon Ratchathani, but the watch kept buzzing loudly. I tried to contact her but couldn’t.”
She admitted that she was very worried but kept calling Rose dozens of times until a rescuer answered. The rescuer asked, “Who is this phone's owner to you?” She replied, “I am her mother.” The rescuer said, “She was in an accident.” She asked what kind of accident it was, as Rose usually told her how she traveled—sometimes by BTS or motorcycle taxi. She did not know if Rose was on the bus at the time of the accident, but from Rose’s social media story, she saw her sitting on the bus with her bag on her lap. She did not know if Rose held her phone or where it was because ultimately, contact was made with a rescuer answering.
“This situation breaks a mother’s heart. After such an accident, you don’t know what to do, you can’t sit still, and you just rush to search for information on where the authorities send the bodies to hospitals. I decided to fly from Ubon Ratchathani to Bangkok and come here. Deep down, I still hope for a miracle—that my daughter might be at a hospital somewhere, that it’s not what I fear. Although my heart is heavy because the rescuers said that among the last three bodies, there was a small, thin person, which seemed like my daughter’s body. We still cannot contact her and must wait.”
Mrs. Wipada added, “I love this child so much; how could I not? I raised her with my own hands, and her father passed away just three years ago. Now I may lose her too. I pray this isn’t true, that a miracle will happen, and that it won’t be like this.” She raised her hands in a prayer asking for divine protection.
“She dreamed of saving a lot of money to return home and care for me. That was her dream. She just visited home on 11 April and returned on 16 April during Songkran. We talked about wanting her to work in government service, to follow in her adoptive father’s footsteps, but she didn’t want that yet. She wanted to save a lot of money because she was enjoying her work and focused on saving.”
Mrs. Wipada admitted she always worried about Rose’s travel in Bangkok. After graduating with second-class honors from Kasetsart University, Rose interned at a company and was fortunate to be hired immediately because of her talent. But no one expected such a tragedy because Rose was very careful.
“This event is very cruel. Watching the video leaves me helpless and shaken. I pray that Rose was not on this bus or wherever she posted her story. Negligence is the harsh reality here. Judging from the footage, it was clearly due to carelessness. Accidents happen frequently at this intersection with no caution. I hope this is the last case and that no such tragedy happens again. I call on the government to take action.”
