Train Collides with Bus, 9 Insured Persons Injured Julaphan Urges Social Security Office to Provide Immediate Assistance

The Minister of Labor revealed that a train collided with a bus, resulting in 9 insured persons injured. He also urged the Social Security Office to closely monitor the situation and promptly facilitate the relevant rights.

Regarding the train-bus collision near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station around 15:30 yesterday (16 May), the accident caused 8 deaths at the scene and numerous injuries, as previously reported.

On 17 May 2026, Mr. Julaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, posted a statement on Facebook saying:

"The train-bus collision resulted in 9 insured persons injured. I have instructed the Social Security Office to immediately provide assistance according to their rights."

Immediately after the freight train collided with a passenger bus on Asoke-Din Daeng Road, I ordered the Social Security Office to urgently verify rights and provide close and swift assistance.

According to the latest report, there were a total of 8 fatalities and 32 injured. Among the injured, 9 are insured persons (7 under Section 33 and 2 under Section 40).

For injured insured persons under Section 33 who are treated at hospitals outside their coverage, the Social Security Office will cover expenses for the first 72 hours. If further treatment is needed, the admitting hospital will coordinate with the hospital within their coverage to cover costs or transfer the patient according to medical assessments from both hospitals.

If hospitalization is required as per medical orders, they are entitled to compensation for income loss at 50% of the wage base, which is 291 baht per day, for up to 90 days.

Injured insured persons under Section 40, or informal workers, can use the universal health coverage card for medical treatment. The Social Security Office will provide compensation during hospitalization: 300 baht per day for inpatients and 200 baht per day for medically certified home rest.

I have emphasized to the Social Security Office to closely monitor the situation and facilitate rights for insured persons and their families to ensure they receive prompt and appropriate support at this time.
