Charges Filed Against Red Flag Railway Staff for Negligence Causing Death and Severe Injuries After Incomplete Signaling

Police at Makkasan Station have charged a railway employee who waved the red flag with negligence causing death and serious injury after failing to provide complete signals according to railway traffic rules. They are also preparing to charge another individual who remains hospitalized due to injuries.

In the case of the train colliding with a bus, freight train number 2126 crashed into an orange air-conditioned bus (Por.206) with vehicle number 3-44197, operating between Mega Bangna and Kasetsart University, license plate 12-5641 Bangkok. The collision caused a fire, resulting in 8 passenger deaths and 30 injuries, as well as damage to several vehicles. The incident occurred near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan station on Asok-Din Daeng Road, Makkasan subdistrict, Ratchathewi district, at 15:42 on 16 May, amid widespread sorrow.

The latest update, on 17 May 2026, Makkasan police summoned the railway employee stationed at the accident site who waved the flag to acknowledge charges of negligence causing death, serious injury, and injury to others. Investigation revealed the employee failed to provide complete railway signals as required by traffic signal protocols, which include having vehicle barriers, waving a red flag to warn trains not to pass unsafe sections, waiting to wave a green flag to allow trains to proceed, and communication via radio.

CCTV footage showed that after waving the red flag to warn the train, the employee walked and stood beside the booth before the train passed at high speed, leading up to the accident.

After taking statements and filing charges against the flag-waving railway employee, police took the individual for fingerprinting. Reporters attempted to ask questions, but the employee did not speak a single word.

Meanwhile, police are preparing to file charges against another person involved in the incident who is still hospitalized. They are awaiting the doctor's opinion on whether the person can be discharged today. If charges are filed against all three suspects, they will be brought before the court for detention hearings tomorrow.
