Revealed: Train Driver Not in Cabin and Not in Uniform Before Bus Collision

It was revealed that the train driver was not in the driver's cabin before the collision with the bus and was not wearing the regulation uniform. He later changed his hairstyle after arriving to acknowledge charges with the police.

Regarding the accident where a train collided with a bus near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan Station at around 15:30 on 16 May, it resulted in 8 fatalities at the scene and many injuries, as previously reported.

At 13:00 on 18 May 2026 at Makkasan Police Station, sources released images of Sayomporn Suankul, 46, the train driver involved in the collision. After his arrest moments after the incident, he was found not wearing the State Railway of Thailand uniform. Instead, Sayomporn wore a gray short-sleeve T-shirt, blue trousers, leather shoes, and had long hair. Notably, after turning himself in to investigators at Makkasan Police Station, Sayomporn had his hair cut short. Reports say his supervisor arranged for a barber to cut his hair at the hospital while he was receiving treatment.

As for the investigation into some CCTV cameras capturing the train’s movement, some cameras recorded the train driver's cabin before the incident but did not show Sayomporn seated there. Police are conducting a detailed examination and have summoned the train mechanic or assistant driver who was working with Sayomporn on the same train for questioning at 14:00 today.
