No More Shared Payment: BMTA Clarifies Miscommunication Over Woman Falling and Cracking Bus Window

A woman fell on a bus and hit her head on the glass, causing it to crack, but was asked to pay half the damage cost before being allowed to see a doctor. The BMTA clarified the miscommunication and said it is willing to take full responsibility for all expenses.

On 18 May 2026 GMT+7, a reporter reported that a young woman posted a message asking about an incident where her mother fell on a bus while it was turning, causing her head to strike the glass and crack it. The message stated: "May I ask, if we fall while riding a bus, is it our fault? Must we pay for the bus damage? The bus is demanding 4,300 baht for damages, claiming passenger negligence, without taking the injured person to the hospital first, instead making the passenger pay for damages upfront. Is this acceptable? What about safety on public buses? Besides getting hurt, we also have to pay money and go to the police station to negotiate. In the end, we had to split the payment with the bus driver and arrange for the injured to be treated at Bangpakok 1 hospital by ourselves, according to the bus regulations?"

After the post was shared, many people commented on the matter.

Subsequently, the BMTA issued a statement on Facebook."BMTA Ready to Act"The statement said that regarding the information about the accident on bus route 4-33E, vehicle number 5-44061, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) sincerely apologizes for the initial miscommunication and coordination errors among staff, which affected the feelings of the injured party and the public.

The BMTA clarified that it has urgently contacted the injured person and confirms its willingness to take full responsibility for all costs arising from this incident. The BMTA accepts this mistake humbly and will expedite improvements in work processes and communication among all staff to prevent such incidents from happening again.
