The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) clarifies the facts about a man who was grazed by a train, confirming that the injured person illegally crossed a barrier into the railway zone. The train's emergency braking was too late, resulting in the glancing collision.
On 19 May 2026, following media and social media reports about suburban train No. 367 (Bangkok - Chachoengsao) grazing a person near telegraph pole 6/3-4 between Makkasan and Khlong Tan stations (just before Asok stop) at 10:40 AM the previous day,
the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) would like to clarify the facts to the public to prevent misunderstandings suggesting that "the train ran into the person." The following are the confirmed facts of the incident.
The train was running normally on the tracks. The accident did not result from an operational error but from the careless actions of the injured party, who rode a motorcycle to park by the roadside, then climbed over a barrier that clearly separates the road from the railway area to urinate within the railway zone at dangerously close range. The train sounded its horn as a warning, but as a large vehicle with a long braking distance, it could not stop in time, causing the grazing collision.
This action not only endangered the life of the trespasser but also disrupted train operations, causing a delay of 22 minutes and inconvenience to passengers using the service.
The State Railway of Thailand reiterates to the public that railway areas with fences or barriers are dangerous and strictly prohibited zones. No one is allowed to climb over, trespass, or conduct personal activities in these areas to ensure their own safety and protect the public train system from disruption.
