Family Mourns as Body of Nong Rose, Victim of Train-Bus Collision, Arrives in Ubon Ratchathani for Funeral

The body of 'Nong Rose' victim of a train colliding with a bus has arrived in her hometown, Ubon Ratchathani, to hold religious funeral rites, while her foster mother revealed a premonitory dream but did not expect the accident to happen to her.

At 09:00 on 20 May 2026 at Suan Sawan Temple, Phibun Mangsahan District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, the family and relatives of Ms. Wiparak Paophuri, or 'Nong Rose', aged 25, who died in a train collision with an air-conditioned bus at the railway crossing on Asoke-Phet Road, Bangkok, gathered to receive her body and prepare for the funeral rites with deep sorrow.

Mrs. Wipada Chantham, 59, the foster mother who has raised 'Nong Rose' since she was 8 years old, said she is the sister of Nong Rose’s father, thus her aunt. She took her in after her father passed away, supporting and caring for her since second grade. 'Nong Rose' was a lovely, cheerful, bright person who excelled academically, graduating with second-class honors from Kasetsart University. Her future was promising as she worked for a company importing vinyl records from abroad. 'Nong Rose' was the family’s pride, and none expected her to leave without farewells.

Mrs. Wipada added that normally Nong Rose preferred to travel by electric train or motorcycle taxi. On the day of the incident (16 May), it is believed she was on her way to a part-time job as a DJ at a café in Bang Na. At 15:38, Mrs. Wipada received over ten consecutive English warning messages from Nong Rose’s phone number. She called back several times until a rescue official answered, informing her of the accident involving the train and bus. Initially, she thought Nong Rose was only injured and rushed to the hospital. After identity verification, it was confirmed to be her body, badly burned beyond recognition. Additionally, payment records for bus route 206 on Nong Rose’s phone confirmed she was on the bus involved in the accident.

Mrs. Wipada also shared a premonitory dream: about 3-4 days before Nong Rose’s death, she dreamed of her father crying and her grandfather happily playing with Nong Rose. She did not expect this dream to be an omen. She said such incidents should never happen to any family as they result from negligence. Since the incident, only Bangkok Mass Transit Authority officials have contacted her; no railway officials have reached out yet. Nong Rose’s body will be kept for funeral rites at Suan Sawan Temple, Phibun Mangsahan, for three days, with cremation scheduled for Saturday, 23 May 2026.
