A landslide buried workers during the construction of the Khuan Krod watergate in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Two bodies were trapped underground and died instantly. Police are urgently investigating the facts and will take legal action.

At approximately 16:00 on 20 May 2026, a duty investigator from Thung Song Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat inspected the construction site of the Khuan Krod watergate at Ban Khok Saeng, Khuan Krod Subdistrict, Thung Song District, after receiving a report of a landslide that killed two workers.

At the scene, workers had already recovered the bodies of the two deceased, identified as Mr. Watit Homlai, 21, from Khao Khao Subdistrict, Thung Song District, and Mr. Chalanthorn Panjaphon, 22, from Pak Praek Subdistrict, Thung Song District. They were construction workers for the watergate and related structures under the Large Irrigation Construction Office No. 15, Large Water Resource Development Office, Royal Irrigation Department, with a contractor company based in Nonthaburi.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that while heavy machinery was operating and workers were digging along the earth embankment, a landslide buried two workers beneath the soil, killing them instantly. The remaining workers narrowly escaped. Police are currently interviewing involved parties, including coworkers and machine operators, to determine the facts and will proceed with legal measures.
