Meteorological Department Issues Warning No. 17: Check Provinces for Heavy Rain Preparedness, Watch for Flash Floods and Mudslides

Today’s weather: The Meteorological Department has issued Warning No. 17, listing provinces to prepare for heavy rain and to watch for flash floods and mudslides.

On 21 May 2026, the Meteorological Department announced heavy to very heavy rain over Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea in Warning No. 17 (77/2569), effective through 21 May 2026.

It stated that on 21 May 2026, Thailand will continue to experience ongoing rain with some areas receiving heavy rain, especially in the western Southern region, due to a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the upper Andaman Sea and Thailand. Additionally, low-pressure areas cover the lower North and upper Northeast. Residents in these areas should be cautious of heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and mudslides, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying plains.

Regarding sea conditions, the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will experience fairly strong winds. In the upper Andaman Sea from Phuket northward, waves will reach 2–3 meters, exceeding 3 meters where thunderstorms occur. In the lower Andaman Sea from Krabi southward and in the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves will reach about 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in these areas should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing where thunderstorms are present. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore during this period.

The provinces expected to be affected by heavy rain are as follows:
