The body of a 37-year-old woman was found shot dead in a forest behind a village in Lampang Province. A mysterious letter naming people last seen with her was found at the scene. At 08:30 on 22 May 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prawit Kamphan, Investigating Officer of Hang Chat Police Station, Hang Chat District, Lampang Province, received a report of a shooting death in the forest behind Pong Tai village, Pong Yang Khok Subdistrict, Hang Chat District, Lampang. He promptly went to the scene accompanied by Police Colonel Praphat Ubolsri, Chief of Hang Chat Police Station, the investigative team, forensic officers from Lampang Forensics Unit 5, and Pong Yang Khok rescue personnel.
The scene was a forest behind the village near rice fields, a location where groups of youths often gather to drink alcohol. The body of Mrs. Sukanya, 37, a resident of Ko Kha District, Lampang, was found shot once in the head with a .32 caliber firearm, lying dead near a tree. Initial examination estimated the death to have occurred at least 8 to 12 hours earlier.
Additionally, numerous bottles of liquor, beer, and cooking utensils were found at a nearby shelter. Officials believe several people may have been socializing before the shooting occurred. The body was sent for a detailed autopsy at the Lampang Hospital's forensic department. A mysterious letter listing the names of people present was also found and collected as evidence.
Mr. Kan Kaew Wongud, 63, the victim's former father-in-law, said he felt sorry for his granddaughter because the victim was a mother. He explained that locals had reported the victim often gathered in that area, and he had warned her that it was inappropriate. Villagers spoke ill of her involvement with drugs, alcohol, and issues with men, but she did not listen. Ultimately, the tragic incident occurred.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had ridden a motorcycle to the area the previous day, parking it near a pond about 50 meters from the scene. This morning, someone found the body at the location and reported it to the police.
Authorities are focusing on personal conflict or a love affair involving a woman believed to have been part of the group the previous night, before the victim became a corpse. The woman was taken for questioning at Hang Chat Police Station. Whether she is involved remains under investigation.
