Surachai Kotbutdee, the District Chief of Bang Yai, ordered the meeting hall closed to conduct unannounced random urine tests on 258 village heads and chiefs.
At 8:30 a.m. on 25 May 2026 at the Bang Yai District Office in Nonthaburi Province, Surachai Kotbutdee convened a meeting with village heads, chiefs, and administrative officials to coordinate with relevant agencies, including Ms. Panida Onjan, Director of Strategy and Administration Division, Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 1; Police Colonel Sirapop Anusiri, Superintendent of Bang Yai Police Station; Police Lieutenant Colonel Rachent Thanatphajanamat, Deputy Superintendent of Bang Yai Police Station; and Mr. Nithipong Supkaew, Acting Public Health Officer of Bang Yai District.
After the meeting concluded, the District Chief immediately ordered the hall to be closed without prior notice and mandated urine tests for all 258 participants to detect drugs in their systems.
Surachai Kotbutdee stated that closing the hall and conducting urine tests on village heads, chiefs, and administrative officials present was a proactive measure aligned with the government and Ministry of Interior's policy to prevent and combat drug abuse. He emphasized that all administrative officers at every level must be free of drugs to serve as good role models for the public and to enhance transparency and effectiveness in community oversight. Using drug testing kits, the results showed no presence of drugs in any of the 258 individuals tested.
However, the district plans to continue random urine testing regularly in accordance with policies from Nonthaburi Province and the government.
