Woman Quarrels with Husband, Abandons 8-Month-Old Child in Forest for Hours, Child Dies Overnight After Being Taken Back Home

In Kamphaeng Phet, a woman argued with her husband and left her 8-month-old child in a forest near their home for an hour. She then carried the child back home. Overnight, the child died. After realizing the child had died, the mother bought alcohol, drank until drunk, and caused a serious disturbance.

At 15:30 on 29 May 2026, police at Khlong Khlung District Station in Kamphaeng Phet received a report from Mr. Ratchakorn Phuthong, 57, headman of Hua Thanon Subdistrict, that an 8-month-old child had been abused, injured, and died. Later, Ms. Ta (a pseudonym), the mother, and Mr. Nueng (a pseudonym), the father, brought their 8-month-old son to Khlong Khlung Hospital, but he was already deceased.

After learning of her child’s death, the mother became delirious and paced anxiously in the hospital. When police arrived, they tried to question her, but she was incoherent and caused a severe disturbance. The police then took the mother into custody for questioning at the station and coordinated for the father to come and meet with the police.

Mr. Ratchakorn, headman of Hua Thanon Subdistrict, said he learned from the doctor at Hua Thanon Health Promoting Hospital that Ms. Ta, 26, brought her 8-month-old son to see the doctor; the child was turning blue and had no pulse. The child was then taken to Khlong Khlung Hospital. The father, 31, said that two days earlier, the wife had thrown their son into the forest near their home, leaving him there for an hour before bringing him back inside the house. At that time, the child was still alive. After one day, the child's condition worsened, so the mother took him to see a doctor at a nearby hospital. The mother has a history of psychiatric illness and had placed the child in foster care at a foundation in Nakhon Sawan six months earlier because she was unable to care for him.

Previously, this family was in the news when the father took their 27-day-old baby to live at Wat Tha Takro Khao Thong temple, Moo 5, Thepnakhon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kamphaeng Phet, because the mother had abandoned the child to the father, who was unemployed. It is unclear how they later came to live together again.

The headman also said that last week he requested the school to issue an educational certificate for their 9-year-old child, who was being cared for by the foundation. However, the mother tore up the certificate issued by the school. The mother exhibits violent behavior, uses drugs, and drinks alcohol, while the father is quiet. Today, after learning of the child's death, the mother became distraught, then bought beer, drank until intoxicated, and caused a disturbance. The headman expressed sadness over the incident because the child was adorable. The hospital has sent the 8-month-old child’s body to Nakhon Sawan for autopsy and will hold a funeral at the temple tomorrow.

Mrs. Jiraporn Meekhun, assistant village head of Moo 3 (Ban Noen Plap), told reporters that two years ago, Ms. Ta, the child's mother, experienced a psychotic episode and vandalized Mrs. Jiraporn’s coffee shop and motorcycle, causing damage. The perpetrator apparently believed Mrs. Jiraporn had reported her for methamphetamine use. After learning of the child's death, Mrs. Jiraporn did not expect the mother to have caused it, as the grandmother said the child was ill, until the father revealed the mother was responsible. She feels deeply saddened. The mother has a history of regular drug use and alcohol consumption leading to psychotic episodes.

Meanwhile, the investigative team from Khlong Khlung Police Station has brought Ms. Ta in for questioning. She remains incoherent and intoxicated. They have also summoned Mr. Nueng, the father, for questioning; he has not yet made any statements. The investigation is ongoing.
