Thailand Responds After Cambodia Protests Deployment of 50 Troops to Set Up Barbed Wire Near Land Border

Thailand has clarified its position following Cambodia's protest over the deployment of 50 troops to set up barbed wire near the land border, affirming the operation is a security mission within its area of responsibility.

On 1 June 2026, the Suranaree Task Force reported that at 07:05, Thai forces, numbering about 50, began installing approximately 150 meters of barbed wire near the southwest of Hill 745 close to the land border. Cambodian forces then appeared to intervene and attempted to stop the installation in that area.

Meanwhile, Thailand explained that the operation was conducted for self-defense and to enhance security within Thai-controlled territory. They confirmed that the action was part of their security mission to prevent risks and maintain order along Thailand's border.
