A loud explosion occurred when a cross-border suicide drone crashed in a chili farm near the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak Province. Three workers from one family died, and two others were seriously injured. Authorities have cordoned off the area pending investigation.
At 16:00 on 2 June 2026, Police Colonel Anusorn Dankong, Superintendent of Phop Phra Police Station in Tak Province, together with military personnel and security agencies, arrived at the scene to investigate an explosion inside a chili farm along the Thai-Myanmar border. The incident occurred in Village No. 1, Moker Thai, Waley Subdistrict, Phop Phra District, Tak Province, resulting in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.
At the site along the road beside the border line, officials found one medium-sized suicide drone resembling a glider crashed beside a tree in intact condition. About 10 meters away, they discovered a bomb crater with the body of Mrs. Makai, a 25-year-old chili picker from Myanmar, who died at the scene from severe wounds.
Nearby, four others were found seriously injured by shrapnel from the explosion. Villagers rushed them to the hospital, but Mr. Tuya, 37, Makai's husband, and their 11-year-old son later died from their injuries. Two other seriously wounded workers, Mr. Cheto, 31, and Mrs. Manai, 30, were taken to Mae Sot Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that there had been intense fighting in Myanmar all day. While workers were harvesting fresh chili on the Thai side, a bomb-laden suicide drone crossed the border and struck a large tree before crashing beside the road. The bomb fell into the chili farm, and Mrs. Makai, her family, and three other workers—five people in total—approached to inspect before a powerful explosion occurred.
Currently, Phop Phra Police have sealed off the site as a hazardous zone, awaiting forensic experts to conduct a detailed examination. Authorities have issued a warning to residents along the Phop Phra border area not to move or tamper with any suspicious objects to prevent life-threatening dangers.
