A pickup truck lost control and collided head-on with a 6-wheel bucket truck. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and found dead in Lopburi. Locals believe the curve is cursed, as two similar crashes resulting in identical fatalities occurred within two days.
At 13:58 on 4 June 2026, on Highway 3017 in Lopburi’s Wang Muang area, a four-lane road near kilometer marker 7, village 6, Nikom Sang Ton Eng Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lopburi Province, a pickup truck with a covered cargo area lost control and collided head-on with a 6-wheel bucket truck from the Provincial Electricity Authority of Lopburi. The impact was severe, causing the pickup’s roof to detach and the vehicle to spin off the road. The driver was ejected and died at the scene. Nearby restaurant CCTV captured the incident.
Following the accident, Police Lieutenant Colonel Parinya Saweangrat, investigating officer of Khok Tum Police Station, along with traffic police, arrived to assist. Volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation and highway department staff promptly went to the scene to inspect the situation.
At the scene, the orange 6-wheel high-voltage bucket truck of the Provincial Electricity Authority of Lopburi was found crashed with its front pressed against a concrete wall in front of a village. The front right tire was blown out and brake fluid leaked, rendering the brake system inoperative. The driver, Wichian, 52 years old, and six other electricity workers sustained minor injuries.
Approximately 50 meters away, a white Isuzu pickup truck registered in Lopburi was found crashed into a roadside utility pole. The front was severely damaged and the pickup bed’s roof had detached and scattered. Smoke was visible at the front, prompting fire services to be called to extinguish the fire. About 30 meters from the pickup, the driver’s body was found lying in front of a local’s house with a fractured skull. The deceased was identified as Rangsit Thepwan, 38, from Ranong Province. The body was examined jointly by the hospital’s duty doctor before being handed to Ruamkatanyu volunteers to be transported to the hospital for autopsy and blood alcohol testing. Authorities will contact relatives to claim the body.
Wichian, the bucket truck driver, explained that before the accident, he and six coworkers were traveling to Khok Tum Subdistrict for high-voltage electrical work. At the accident site, it was raining. The pickup truck approached from the opposite direction. Because the location is a curve, the pickup lost control, spun, and collided head-on with the bucket truck’s right front wheel with full force, causing a tire blowout. The bucket truck’s brake system failed, and the vehicle crossed lanes to crash into a housing estate wall. Meanwhile, the pickup was thrown off the road, hitting a utility pole, ejecting the driver who died at the scene.
Authorities will continue investigating to determine the exact cause and take legal action accordingly.
