Social Media Admires Nong Nueng, the Star Clouded Leopard, After Jokes About Its Pattern Resembling a Python

Social media is charmed by “Nong Nueng,” the star clouded leopard of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, who appears very cute from some angles. This follows heavy teasing about its pattern resembling that of a python, with live streaming viewership rising continuously.

An online trend has shared images and comments about “Nong Nueng,” a clouded leopard born and raised at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, focusing especially on the distinctive patterns on its body that are unique to clouded leopards. Many netizens have humorously compared and joked that its pattern looks like a python’s, creating amusement and laughter online. Importantly, Nong Nueng is part of a research project on breeding clouded leopards at the zoo, which has been ongoing for over 30 years, and Nong Nueng also serves as the logo for Khao Kheow Open Zoo.

Most recently, at 11:00 a.m. on 5 June 2026, Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, revealed that “Nong Nueng” is a clouded leopard born from the successful breeding of wild animals within the zoo, with a father named “Ping” and a mother named “Thale.” This represents a source of pride for Khao Kheow Open Zoo in its wildlife conservation efforts.

Nong Nueng was born in the same litter as two siblings named “Song” and “Sam.” Zoo staff have closely cared for them from birth, overseeing their health, nutrition, and developmental milestones. Currently, Nong Nueng is healthy and thriving, becoming a favorite animal among many tourists.

Regarding the online jokes comparing Nong Nueng’s pattern to that of a python, Mr. Narongwit views this as an expression of affection and public interest. He explained that the clouded leopard’s pattern naturally features large cloud-like markings, which is why it is called a “clouded leopard.”

“When people joke that the pattern resembles a python, it adds color and draws more attention to Nong Nueng. However, what we want to emphasize is that Nong Nueng is not just an animal with an unusual or cute pattern, but also a protected wild species with conservation value. It is the result of successful breeding under the care of Khao Kheow Open Zoo and serves as an important ambassador to raise public awareness about wildlife conservation,” said Mr. Narongwit.

The reporter noted that Nong Nueng’s popularity continues to grow steadily. This exhibit is part of a research and breeding project at the zoo, which is not open to public visits, but visitors can watch the clouded leopard live through live streaming.https://www.zoodio.live/th
