Banthat Mountains Temporarily Close Nature Trails After Tourist Accident Fatality

The "Banthat Wildlife Sanctuary" has announced the temporary closure of its nature trails following a tourist accident involving disorientation and death.

On 9 June 2026, the Facebook pageBanthat Wildlife Sanctuaryposted a message titled "Temporary Closure of Nature Trails in Banthat Wildlife Sanctuary" stating that the Banthat Wildlife Sanctuary had previously opened five nature trails, which are:

1. Khao Chet Yot Nature Trail

2. Khao Lon Lan Hin Ai Un Nature Trail

3. Khao Lon Nom Sao Nature Trail

4. Khao Lak Nature Trail

5. Ban Tra Nature Trail

Due to a tourist accident involving disorientation and death in the area, combined with the onset of the rainy season and continuous heavy rains, the hiking trails and natural tourist sites have become risky. This situation could endanger the lives and property of both tourists and staff. For the safety of visitors and to restore natural resources, ecosystems, and wildlife habitats,

the Banthat Wildlife Sanctuary has decided to review and improve safety measures for nature tourism. This includes clearly defining and standardizing rules, regulations, and practices for tour guides and operators to ensure strict compliance. To allow the natural resources and ecosystems to recover, the sanctuary hereby announces the temporary closure of all nature trails effective immediately until further notice.
