Yala Raises Security Measures to Highest Level After Teacher Security Bombing 13 Bombings in 4 Years Reported

Yala has raised its security measures to the highest level after a bombing attack targeted teacher security personnel. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by insurgents operating along the border of two provinces. Statistics reveal 13 bombings over the past four years.

The ongoing unrest in Thailand's southern border provinces continues. On 9 June 2026, attackers planted a bomb targeting the teacher and student protection task force in Raman district, Yala province, causing multiple injuries.Read the news: Attackers plant bomb targeting teacher security officers in front of a school in Yala, injuring three.)

On 10 June 2026, it was reported that following the incident, Police Major General Kong-at Suwankham, Commander of Yala Provincial Police, ordered all security and police stations to implement the strictest security measures.

He emphasized that checkpoints and main inspection points must increase the frequency and thoroughness of checks on suspicious persons, vehicles, and objects to prevent infiltration aimed at destabilizing urban areas, while reassuring the local population.

Meanwhile, security agencies reported movements of senior insurgent leaders meeting with militant groups in Bannang Sata and Than To districts. They reportedly ordered acceleration of military operations against state officials but stressed minimizing casualties among their own forces.

Additionally, activity was detected among operational groups in Ban Jaror Pae, Than To subdistrict, and Ban Bua Thong, Ban Hrae subdistrict, believed to be preparations for imminent attacks. Authorities are closely monitoring and preparing to respond to the situation.

Regarding the bombing targeting the teacher and student protection unit in Raman district, after the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Yala Provincial Police inspected the scene, they found a large crater measuring 4.3 meters wide, 5 meters long, and 1.1 meters deep. Evidence included a 15-kilogram gas cylinder filled with explosives, cut rebar weighing 80 kg, an electric ignition system with wiring (2x0.5 mm wires found at the scene), main explosive charges, and shrapnel made from 8 mm cut rebar of varying lengths intended as lethal fragments. The bomb was buried in a culvert pipe under the road to maximize destructive impact.

Reviewing security incident records under the Raman Police jurisdiction in Yala province shows that from 2022 to the present, there have been 13 bombing incidents.

Initial security assessments conclude this attack was conducted by insurgent groups active along the border area between Balo subdistrict, Raman district, Yala, and Rueso district, Narathiwat province. Their aim is to continuously incite unrest. Authorities are currently gathering evidence to identify and prosecute those responsible under the law.
