Four Severely Ill After Eating Noodles, Now Stable Mystery Powder Test Results Expected in 7 Days

The case began when customers at a noodle shop in Ban Pornsawan, Nong Bua Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District, experienced dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating there. On the morning of 9 June 2026, Udon Thani public health officials and police inspected the restaurant. The owner claimed that her son had brought salt he had taken from a yellow-colored trash bin and sold it for 10 baht. This salt was then used to season the noodle soup. Both the owner's daughter and customers experienced varying symptoms. The salt was collected for testing for contaminants. The severely ill father filed a complaint at the police station, demanding the owner be held responsible, as previously reported.  The tags are [health inspection, police investigation, contaminated ingredient, complaint filed]Read the news: Urgent investigation into "mystery ingredient" after 13 customers hospitalized following noodle consumption.  The tags are [investigation, food safety, hospitalizations])  The tags are []

Latest update: At 09:00 on 10 June 2026, reporters visited the noodle shop, which is a small eatery with a corrugated metal roof, selling noodles, made-to-order dishes, and larb koi (a type of raw meat salad). The shop was closed and not selling today. Local residents reported that the owner and relatives had closed the shop and visited the daughter at the hospital. About 150 meters from the noodle shop is the home of Mr. Wichian, identified as the person who collected the salt bag from the trash bin. Mr. Sinchu, the restaurant owner's son, reportedly stole the salt bag despite being forbidden. His house was quiet and empty.  The tags are [local community, investigation, family members, salt contamination]

Regarding the case, Police Colonel Patthana Wongchanphon, chief of Mueang Udon Thani police station, stated that after reports from guardians of those severely ill following noodle consumption—who experienced vomiting, dizziness, and diarrhea—he ordered an investigation to find the cause. It was found that the owner's son, who is an alcoholic, brought a salt-like substance for his mother to use in cooking, which led to the incident. Authorities are considering two possibilities: whether it was intentional or accidental negligence. The toxic substance mixed in the salt could be life-threatening. Tests are being conducted by Udon Thani Public Health and the Udon Thani Regional Hospital, which sent the salt for analysis at Ramathibodi Hospital to identify any contaminants.  The tags are [police statement, investigation, toxicology, public health]

We have questioned victims and witnesses, including those mentioned by the owner and son, as well as others gathered independently by police.
