A bus stopped by the roadside for a bathroom break was hit from behind by a pickup truck, causing a fatality on the service road leading to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The deceased’s girlfriend revealed they had just parted ways after sharing a meal together.
On 10 Jun 2026 at 20:00, Police Lieutenant Sarun Ma-saeng, deputy investigator at Bang Kaeo Police Station, received a report of a pickup truck with a covered bed crashing into the rear of a staff shuttle bus. There was a fatality trapped inside the pickup wreckage on the service road to Suvarnabhumi Airport, opposite Central Village Outlet, Bang Chalong Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. The deputy, along with emergency doctors from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital and Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue workers, rushed to the scene.
The accident site was on the far left lane of the service road about 1 km from Bang Na-Trat Road. The crashed vehicles included a pink Isuzu pickup truck rear-ending a green bus. The pickup’s front was severely damaged with its roof torn off. Inside the driver's seat area, 34-year-old Mr. Theerawi was found dead, crushed against the vehicle’s dashboard. Rescue workers had to use hydraulic cutters to remove the wreckage before retrieving his body for autopsy.
The bus driver, Mr. Surachet, 38, suffered head injuries from the impact and was taken by foundation workers to Chularat Hospital. The bus’s rear end was badly damaged.
Interviewed at the scene, Ms. Daran, 33, the victim’s wife, said he had just left home to go to a job in Chonburi. They had recently parted after dining together. Initially, they spoke via video call until she reached her accommodation. He ended the call after she said she would phone their child and hang laundry. Shortly after, a friend watching a live broadcast messaged her saying, “Your boyfriend crashed his bike,” explaining that he often traveled for work.
Witness Mr. Apichat Jongjaihan, 42, said, “The vehicle appeared to approach from the rear, visible jumping down from the bridge’s neck. A sedan was driving ahead; if I remember correctly, it seemed to swerve to avoid something on the road. Then I heard a loud noise, which at first I thought was a truck tire bursting because it was so loud. I was quite far from the crash site, so initially, I only heard the sound.”
Bus driver Mr. Surachet recounted, “At the time, I was standing on the bus, which had just stopped briefly for a bathroom break before continuing the route. There was no other vehicle parked behind except mine. Suddenly, I heard a crashing sound as the pickup slammed into the rear, shattering the glass and damaging the bus’s back. I think I hit my head on the steps and got injured.”
Authorities have conducted a reconstruction and photographed the scene as evidence. The bus driver was invited to give further statements at the police station. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to determine the cause. The victim’s body was handed over to the foundation for transfer to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for autopsy, before being released to relatives for religious rites.
