Midnight Hotel Fire in Lampang Causes Evacuation of Nearly 30 Rooms Blockage Cleaner Suspected

A midnight fire broke out at a hotel in Lampang province, prompting emergency personnel to evacuate guests from nearly 30 rooms. Preliminary investigations suggest a chemical reaction involving a drain cleaner caused an explosion leading to the fire.

On 10 Jun 2026 GMT+7, at 21:00, Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwit Deemihan, an investigator at Hang Chat Police Station in Hang Chat District, Lampang Province, received reports of a fire with people trapped inside rooms at a hotel in Village No. 13, Pong Yang Kok Subdistrict, Hang Chat District, Lampang. He promptly dispatched units to the scene along with fire trucks and rescue teams from Pong Yang Kok Rescue Unit, Lampang Rescue Association, and nearby rescue units.

At the scene, guests were panicking and fleeing outside as thick smoke billowed heavily from the hotel. The fire originated in room 103. Officers and rescue workers sprayed water to extinguish the flames and soon brought the fire under control. Rescue teams then searched all rooms for anyone trapped inside. Initial checks confirmed all guests had evacuated safely.

Guests staying at the hotel reported hearing what sounded like an explosion before thick smoke rapidly poured out. They quickly fled their rooms, with some having to climb down stairs from the second floor to escape.

The cause was linked to someone pouring microorganisms or certain chemicals into the bathroom drain to clear a blockage and leaving the substance inside. This chemical then reacted, causing an explosion and fire in the room, along with heavy smoke that alarmed the guests and caused chaos.

Nattapon Wongsuwan, a volunteer with the Lampang Rescue Association, said they were initially informed of a hotel fire with people trapped inside. Firefighters were dispatched to support the rescue. They found smoke and fire in room 103 and worked together to extinguish the blaze, which they controlled quickly.

Damage was found inside the room, affecting the door and the air conditioner. Rescue teams searched other rooms for trapped guests but found none. All guests were accounted for and safe. Only one room sustained damage.
