Thailand has asserted its position as the number one source of exotic and rare plants through the 21st Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale, with Taiwan joining the opening ceremony to further collaboration efforts.
On 12 June 2026, reporters covered the opening of the 21st BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL EXOTIC PLANTS SHOW & SALE "BLOSSOM," one of the world's largest international exotic and rare plant exhibitions. The event took place from 12–14 June 2026 under the theme RARE AND EXOTIC at Chaengwattana Hall, Central Chaengwattana, Bangkok. The show aims to serve as a hub connecting entrepreneurs, collectors, experts, and buyers worldwide to drive the tropical plant industry, which is emerging as a significant green asset with an important role in the economy.
A highlight of this year's event was the presence of the Mayor of Taoyuan City, Taiwan, who led a delegation of agricultural experts in the opening ceremony and site visits. They exchanged knowledge and sought to expand cooperation. Additionally, the event made history by hosting the first international ornamental plant competition, underscoring Thailand's capability as a regional and global center for exotic and rare plants.
Mayor Zhang San-Zheng (Simon) of Taoyuan City, Taiwan, stated that Thailand leads global trends in ornamental plants and has a rich agricultural heritage. This aligns with Taoyuan City's goals. He expects future exchanges between Taoyuan and Bangkok to yield benefits greater than the sum of their parts, opening unlimited new opportunities in the global green plant market. He also expressed confidence that Thailand's fertile environment combined with Taiwan's technology and expertise will foster the development of new plant varieties for the market.
Ms. Thanyathita Boonmaneekul, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, revealed that the 21st consecutive event confirms the strength of Thailand's ornamental plant industry, particularly in the collector and exotic and rare plant sectors. Thailand is regarded as number one regionally and globally. Today's event will spark connections in marketing and among entrepreneurs to sustainably elevate Thai ornamental plants to international levels.
Mr. Sanpasiri Chaowanwanich, Show Director of the Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale and an expert in exotic and rare plants, disclosed that this event attracted more than 150 exhibitors and sellers of exotic and rare plants from various countries including Thailand, the United States, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and Japan. The European, American, and Russian markets remain key targets with ongoing demand for rare ornamental plants worldwide.
A major highlight of the event was the plant competition featuring five categories: Philodendron, Monstera, Anthurium, Alocasia, and Terrarium plants. Renowned influencers served as judges, evaluating entries based on rarity, health, attractive plant form, and novelty not seen elsewhere.
On the business promotion side, the event acted as a matchmaking platform, especially for new entrepreneurs. Regarding current popular plant trends, Mr. Sanpasiri noted that Anthurium, Monstera, and Alocasia species continue to enjoy high demand.
However, this event was not only a key platform for connecting information and building business networks between Thai and international entrepreneurs to advance Thai ornamental plants to global standards but also set the stage for the 22nd Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale, scheduled for 14–16 August at Chaengwattana Hall, Central Chaengwattana. The upcoming show will focus on plants suitable for terrarium systems and indoor ornamental plants, catering to the lifestyles of the new generation.
