Mae Sot Customs Seizes 36,000 Liters of Diesel Fuel from Two Trucks Bound for Myanmar

Mae Sot Customs intercepted two trailer trucks carrying 36,000 liters of diesel fuel valued at over 1.5 million baht, prepared for illegal cross-border transport to Myanmar.

At 1:00 p.m. on 16 June 2026, reporters were informed that Mr. Yodporn Vichayakul, Chief of Mae Sot Customs, along with Mae Sot Customs officers, collaborated with the Investigation and Suppression Division, Customs Control Division of Regional Customs Office 3, Investigation and Suppression Division 3, and related agencies.

They jointly apprehended two trailer trucks covered tightly with tarps, which appeared suspicious, and proceeded to inspect them. The search revealed 40 containers of diesel fuel, each holding 1,000 liters, totaling 36,000 liters inside both trucks. The vehicles were attempting to smuggle the fuel across the border to Myawaddy Province via a natural crossing without any customs clearance documents. Authorities confiscated the evidence for record and further action.

Initial investigations indicated that due to the soaring fuel prices in Myanmar, selling for more than 100 baht per liter, smuggling operations have been attempting to transport fuel there for profit.

This act constitutes illegal smuggling of fuel to avoid customs procedures and likely involves intent to export the goods through the natural border along the Moei River, violating the Customs Act of 2017. Authorities have proceeded with legal action accordingly.
