Police are urgently pursuing the suspect who shot a "young scrap collector" dead at a garbage dump in Lopburi province. An inspection of the shelter found drug use equipment and scattered methamphetamine bags on the ground.
At 09:30 on 16 June 2026, Lieutenant Thanadet Boonkroa, deputy investigation officer at Mueang Lopburi Police Station, received a report from the Lopburi 191 radio center about a deceased person found near a private garbage dump in Tha Khae Subdistrict, Mueang Lopburi District, Lopburi province. Upon receiving the report, he informed his superiors and coordinated with the Lopburi Provincial Police investigation unit, Mueang Lopburi investigation police, forensic police, and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation to promptly proceed to the scene.
The area is a private garbage dumping site awaiting sorting. Beside the road stood a makeshift shelter used for sorting trash. The body of Mr. Anan Fongjamorn, 41, a resident of Tha Khae Subdistrict, Mueang Lopburi District, was found lying on his back with blood streaming from his head. He wore black long pants, a gray long-sleeve jacket, and sneakers. His mother, Mrs. Wasana Fongjamorn, 59, was crying inconsolably, nearly overwhelmed, while relatives comforted her.
Near the body was a red Honda PCX motorcycle registered in Lopburi. A hammer and a hoe were found lying on the ground. The exact cause of death was unclear. An inspection of the shelter across the road revealed the victim’s phone left there. Under the shelter were drug use implements and methamphetamine bags scattered on the ground.
During questioning, Mr. Wanchai, 35, a resident of Tha Khae Subdistrict and security guard at the garbage dump near the scene, who knew the victim well, said that at about 05:00 on 16 June he heard a motorcycle approaching, followed by a loud argument. Then a second motorcycle arrived, and he heard a single gunshot before both motorcycles sped away.
He said he was afraid to approach and waited until morning to come and see that Mr. Anan had already been fatally attacked. Without a phone of his own, he called on a passing villager to contact the police. He described the victim as a good person whom he often talked with and sometimes borrowed the motorcycle from to buy food.
Mr. Wanchai continued that before the incident, he heard the argument and the victim saying, "It wasn't me, I didn’t do it." The other person replied, "Ai Noi has told me everything." Then the gunshot was heard. He did not dare to look until morning. The victim had previously worked for a company but resigned due to problems and had since collected scrap to sell.
Police Major General Yanyong Santipreechawat, Commander of Lopburi Provincial Police, visited the scene and instructed the investigation team to expedite the search for the shooter and accomplices promptly, as this is a serious and shocking case.
Initial examination of the wound showed the victim was shot once with an unknown caliber firearm through the left ear, exiting the right ear. The body was taken to the hospital for a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death.
