On the morning of 18 June 2026, a Prachinburi reporter visited a house in Si Maha Phot District and met the car owner, Mr. Sunet, 48. He showed the black Toyota Vios sedan with license plate กบ 4468 Prachinburi parked behind the house. Inspection revealed more than 20 giant honeybees still inside the passenger cabin, some already dead.
Mr. Sunet opened the car's trunk, and a large number of bees flew out from the rear compartment. Inside the trunk, there was a grill used for barbecuing.
Mr. Sunet said he took his family to a picnic at Wang Khru freshwater lake, an open area. After starting a barbecue, thousands of giant honeybees suddenly swarmed and settled on his car, causing his family and nearby tourists to flee in panic. He contacted the local village head to summon rescue volunteers to help move the car. Several volunteers were stung during the rescue. The rescue team sprayed fire extinguisher chemicals to disperse the bees, covering the car in white powder, but many bees remained inside. Opening the trunk revealed more bees and a developing nest. Mr. Sunet said he did not believe in luck or omens related to the incident.
While the reporter was interviewing, a giant honeybee landed on his nose and stung the tip, requiring removal of the stinger.
