Rescue Urgently Assists Garbage Truck Driver After Rear-Ending 10-Wheeler, Driver Trapped Inside Vehicle

Rescue teams rushed to assist the garbage truck driver after his vehicle crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler. Rescuers used cutting and spreading equipment to extract him and took him to hospital, where he later died. The incident is believed to have been caused by falling asleep at the wheel.

At 04:30 on 19 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Natthawut Mingmuang, the investigating officer at Sai Noi Police Station, along with rescue workers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived to inspect the scene after receiving reports that a garbage truck had crashed into the rear of a parked 10-wheeler, leaving the driver seriously injured and trapped inside. The incident occurred on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road, near the intersection to the Sai Noi District Office, Sai Noi Subdistrict, Sai Noi District.

At the scene, a six-wheel garbage truck registered in Samut Prakan was found crashed and stuck against the rear of a yellow Hino 10-wheeler truck registered in Pathum Thani, which was parked by the roadside. The injured man was identified as Mr. Saman, 63, the garbage truck driver. Rescue workers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation used cutting and spreading tools to free him and transported him to Sai Noi Hospital, where he later passed away.

After the accident, a colleague of the deceased reported that he had already sent all workers home before driving the garbage truck alone to dispose of waste at a landfill in Sai Noi District, but the accident occurred before he could complete the task.

Mr. Somyos, the 10-wheeler truck driver, said he and his coworkers were working on wiring ahead of the site. They had parked the 10-wheeler truck before the work area and placed orange traffic cones at the rear as usual. At the time of the accident, he was not present as he had driven a pickup truck elsewhere. Other workers heard a loud noise and initially thought a vehicle had overturned. When they went to check, they saw the garbage truck had crashed into the rear, with the driver injured and unconscious inside, alone.

Police officials stated that they had documented the scene and questioned the 10-wheeler driver, who confirmed his vehicle was parked roadside with orange cones placed. They suspect the garbage truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the accident. However, authorities will review CCTV footage at the scene to determine the exact cause.
