Nonthaburi — A drunken woman driving a Fortuner stole crates of salted fish from a village and fled, crashing into a barrier. Police pursued and found her refusing to open the car door, forcing officers to shoot out the tires. She gave confused statements.
At 16:00 on 18 June 2026, patrol officers from Muang Nonthaburi Police Station were alerted by Prachachuen Police to intercept a black Toyota Fortuner involved in theft within a luxury village near Ratchavipha on Ratchadaphisek Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok. The suspect fled toward Muang Nonthaburi area while village security guards and management staff pursued the vehicle.
Upon notification, Muang Nonthaburi patrol officers located the vehicle outside Soi Phibunsongkhram 9, Suan Yai Subdistrict, Muang Nonthaburi District, heading toward Rama 5 intersection. Due to evening traffic congestion, the car was unable to proceed. Officers tried to tap on the driver's window, but the dark-tinted glass prevented seeing inside. The driver refused to exit and attempted to escape. Concerned the driver might harm other road users, officers fired at the front and rear tires, causing them to deflate. The driver still refused to leave, so police broke the passenger side window and opened the door to detain the woman, then towed the vehicle to the station.
During questioning, the suspect was identified as Mrs. Sukanya, 52. Inside the car, officers found a cardboard box containing dried seafood (salted fish) and an opened bottle of mixed liquor. A breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of 98 mg%. She was arrested on three charges: theft, driving under the influence, and disobeying a police order.
Mrs. Sukanya stated that she has two homes, one in Nonthaburi and another elsewhere, and denied stealing anything. However, her statements were rambling and unclear.
Mr. Sakchai, a security guard at the village, said the woman drove into the village while he was on patrol. He saw her park near the clubhouse and carry a crate down. He asked management if the crate belonged to her, but it did not. Management then ordered a roadblock to stop her. He called Prachachuen Police. When patrol officers arrived, she crashed through the village entrance barrier and fled. She was later caught at Soi Phibunsongkhram 9. Although she owns a house in the village, she does not live there permanently but visits occasionally.
After arrest, Mrs. Sukanya was taken to Prachachuen Police Station for prosecution. She tried to walk back home, so police had to escort her into a detention vehicle.
Reporters noted that Mrs. Sukanya previously caused an incident on 22 October 2025 by driving into a bubble tea shop and damaging parked motorcycles along the roadside.
