The Rector of Buriram Rajabhat University issued a statement rebutting social media rumors about opening faculties of medicine and dentistry on Khao Kradong land, stressing that the information is untrue. He revealed that the university does have plans to acquire new land exceeding 400 rai near Khao Kradong, but the process concerning "land rights" is ongoing. Establishing such faculties is not simple, as it requires substantial budgets, equipment, and personnel. Currently, only the Faculty of Nursing and the Public Health program are offered.
On 19 June 2026, reporters reported that information had circulated on social media claiming Buriram Rajabhat University was preparing to establish faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, medical technology, and several health science branches on about 460 rai near Khao Kradong, Samet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province. This area is close to the site of the second Buriram Hospital under construction, prompting widespread public debate both supporting and expressing concerns about the university's readiness.
Recently, Associate Professor Dr. Siranee Jutopama, Rector of Buriram Rajabhat University, spoke during a press conference preparing for the university's 55th anniversary celebration at the Phuttharaksa Conference Room, 3rd floor, Chalermphrakiat Building, Buriram Rajabhat University, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram.
The Rector responded by issuing an official four-paragraph statement from Buriram Rajabhat University clarifying false information about opening medical faculties. The statement aimed to prevent misunderstandings and confusion among students, parents, and the general public, firmly denying the claims as “fake news.”
The Rector clarified that in fact, Buriram Rajabhat University currently offers only the Faculty of Nursing and the Public Health program, with no policies, plans, or admissions for any other medical-related courses. Establishing medical and health science faculties at the higher education level requires approval from the university council and accreditation by professional councils.
At present, Buriram Rajabhat University has not applied for approval or initiated processes for such courses. He urged students, parents, and the public not to believe or spread false information on social media to avoid damage and negative impacts on the university's reputation.
The Rector stated that while the university does have plans to acquire more than 400 rai near Khao Kradong, the land rights and related procedures with the Department of Lands and other agencies are still underway. Therefore, this area has not been established as a second campus of Buriram Rajabhat University, contrary to social media claims.
“Establishing faculties of medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy is not something that can be easily done, as it requires substantial funding, readiness in personnel, facilities, medical equipment, and multiple accreditations by relevant agencies and professional councils,” said the Rector.
Currently, Buriram Rajabhat University only offers health science education through its Faculty of Nursing and Public Health program, both taught on the main university campus. There are no medical, dental, pharmacy, or medical technology faculties or courses offered at this time.
Regarding the Khao Kradong land under process, the university plans to use this area to support nursing education, as it is near the site of the second Buriram Hospital construction project, which will benefit nursing students' practical training and skills development in the future.
Additionally, there are plans to develop a health promotion center or Wellness Center, as well as the BRU Nursing Home project to support the aging society and serve as a professional training site for nursing students.
“We ask the media to help communicate accurate information, as some pages have spread untrue claims. The university is an educational institution, and all news should be based on accurate, verifiable data,” Associate Professor Dr. Siranee said. She reaffirmed that the rumors about establishing faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and other health sciences on Khao Kradong land are false and urged the public to follow only official university announcements.
