Police Captain Storms Bhumjaithai Party Office, Shoots Signs and Building, Then Flees

The Surat Thani police chief inspected the Bhumjaithai Party office after a police captain searched for MP Pichai but did not find him, then fired shots damaging signs and the building before fleeing in a car.  The investigation was launched immediately after the incident.

At 10:00 a.m. on 20 June 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Suwat Suksri, Commander of Surat Thani Provincial Police, along with Pol. Col. Natchanon Koedko, Deputy Commander and acting Superintendent of Suai Police Station, and Pol. Lt. Col. Chaowarat Jaihao, Deputy Superintendent of the Investigation Division at Suai Police Station, inspected the Bhumjaithai Party office located in Village 6, Suai Subdistrict, Tha Chang District, Surat Thani Province. This office serves as the coordination center for MP Pichai Chomphupol of Surat Thani from the Bhumjaithai Party and is part of the Police Commission of the House of Representatives. The office’s sign and building were damaged by gunfire. Initial findings showed the perpetrator used a 9mm pistol, leaving 13 bullet casings at the scene.

CCTV footage revealed that at around 8:20 a.m., the party office had opened with some staff inside. A suspect drove a black sedan registered in Bangkok and parked there. At that moment, the suspect encountered Wannakorn Chusri, the village headman of Suai Subdistrict, who was exercising outside the office. The suspect asked about MP Pichai, and when told that the MP had not yet arrived, the suspect turned and fired at the office sign and building before fleeing the scene.

Authorities have now identified the suspect as a police officer holding the rank of Police Captain. They are closely pursuing him since he is reported to have impaired mental health and is still armed with a firearm.
