
"State Railway of Thailand" expressed regret. It expressed condolences over the Doiluang tunnel wall collapse and is urgently investigating the cause while fully supporting those affected.
On 21 June 2026, the Facebook pageof the State Railway of Thailand's PR teamposted a heartfelt condolence message to the families of the deceased and sent encouragement to the injured from the Doiluang tunnel wall collapse during the new railway line construction project, Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong section (Contract 3), Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong segment, on 20 June 2026 at about 16:30. The collapse occurred at the Doiluang railway tunnel construction site, Village 10, Chok Chai Subdistrict, Doiluang District, Chiang Rai Province, while the contractor was installing waterproofing inside the tunnel.
The incident caused 2 fatalities: Mr. Apidet (surname withheld), 24, from Kanchanaburi Province, and Mr. Tu (surname withheld), 29, a Myanmar national. Additionally, 2 persons were critically injured.
After the incident, the project's safety officers immediately cordoned off the area and coordinated with relevant agencies for urgent assistance and investigation. The injured were sent to Doiluang Hospital and Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital, while the deceased were handed over to appropriate authorities for legal procedures.
The State Railway of Thailand instructed the contractor to temporarily halt work at the incident site for 2 days to allow experts and related agencies to inspect the structural condition, work environment, and thoroughly determine the cause before implementing additional safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
Simultaneously, the State Railway assigned the contractor to collaborate with the agency in providing comprehensive care, compensation, and assistance to the affected individuals and their families, including medical treatment, legal benefits, and other related support.
Moreover, the State Railway ordered a review of safety measures for tunnel construction and large infrastructure projects currently underway, emphasizing strict compliance by contractors, supervisors, and all involved parties with safety standards to ensure the highest level of safety during project execution.
Should there be any updates on the investigation results, the State Railway of Thailand will inform the public and media accordingly.
