Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reveals preliminary findings on the incident of the fallen awning finding damage limited to specific parts without affecting the main structure; five units remain temporarily closed to entry
On 21 June 2026, FacebookBangkok Metropolitan Administrationposted stating that BMA revealed preliminary results on the fallen awning incident, reporting damage confined to parts without affecting the main structure. At 11:00 a.m., the Samphanthawong District Office, together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Department of Public Works and the Engineering Institute of Thailand under Royal Patronage, conducted an on-site inspection of a building on Rama IV Road near Mo Mi intersection after the second-floor awning fell.
Initial inspections found the fallen awning likely resulted from material deterioration over prolonged use and exposure to weather conditions consistent with its age.
Furthermore, experts’ preliminary assessments found no impact on the building’s main structure; damage was confined to the front awning area only.
However, for safety and public reassurance, the Samphanthawong District Office has temporarily closed five units of the building and will coordinate with relevant agencies for further detailed inspections to determine the next steps.
